Reduce Stress

It is surprising how many people use a personal trainer to reduce stress; I have a number of clients who’s main goal is to reduce stress.

Many of my clients look forward to training as it helps to reduce stress levels from work; they say it’s the feeling of relaxation and reduced stress after the workout that keeps them coming back for more.

It is scientifically proven that exercise helps to reduce stress levels; the amount of cortisol (stress hormone) produced by the body is in proportion to the intensity of the exercise or stress. Intense forms of exercise such as sprinting or lifting heavy weights, increase cortisol levels. Milder forms of exercise with a meditative component, such as jogging or stretching, keep cortisol production to a minimum. A person who exercises regularly will have a higher threshold for physical stress and will experience lower cortisol levels in reaction to intense exercise than an inactive person who attempts the same level of activity.

When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins are known as the feel good hormones which help to reduce stress and improve your mood.
